“You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new” Brian Tracy
City Dance Corp in Toronto had their open house session the other day and a friend of mine invited me to go. And to be honest, it took me some time to give her a proper answer which consists of only two words “yes or no”. What made this even funny/strange (depending on how you look at it); I always wanted to do dance lessons. So, why answering her took so long or seemed so hard?….well I have been putting myself in this box/comfort zone for a long time. This comfort zone was created by a series of different events along my journey in life. But I have been craving to get outside of that and each day that craving is getting worst. So, I took a deep breath after getting encouragement from others and went for it. Guess what! that doubt or fear that I had in the back of my mind was all gone by the time I signed myself in. The excitement of what this experience would bring was at the brim of screaming out loud. I tried the Soca session and Afro Fusion and I loved every bit of it, even though my sleeping muscles (lack of exercise) was not happy from being woken up. Ouch!
Sometimes we are the ones holding ourselves back and finding reasons of why we shouldn’t or can’t. Once I got out of my head, the fears I have of being in a dance class and keeping up with following steps, disappears and I had an amazing time. Which lead me to question: what was I really afraid of? Is the unknown so daunting to us?
Good new is (all smiles here), in my little mind I am thinking budget and schedule: how do I budget dance classes in my budget and what day of the week are the classes offer??
A word of advice from a comfort zoner: Get out and try as much as you possible can…..and definitely get out of your head
Feel that fear and do it anyway …..you might get a good laugh or story to tell
If you are considering taking a dance class or two…go ahead…try it! A fun workout don’t hurt no body.
Until next time…walk good (be safe) ….and “whatever you choose to do, do it with a smile”
